Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Accountant with proven experience in the construction industry to join a dynamic team in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. This role is ideal for finance professionals who possess strong expertise in project accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) analysis, revenue recognition, financial reporting, and project cost management within large-scale construction environments.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy across multiple projects by managing month-end closing activities, ledger reconciliations, variance reporting, and financial forecasting. Working closely with project managers and finance stakeholders, the Project Accountant will provide valuable financial insights that support operational efficiency and project profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Accruals & Deferrals

  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries related to revenue recognition, expense accruals, and deferred revenue.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, financial policies, and internal controls.
  • Maintain accuracy and completeness of financial records during closing periods.

WIP (Work-in-Progress) Analysis

  • Review and analyze WIP accounts across active construction projects.
  • Monitor unbilled and unearned revenue against project milestones.
  • Identify discrepancies and collaborate with project teams to resolve issues promptly.

Variance Reporting

  • Perform month-end variance analysis comparing actual costs against project budgets.
  • Identify cost overruns and provide financial insights to project managers.
  • Support forecasting activities and cost-to-complete reporting requirements.

Ledger Reconciliation

  • Reconcile project sub-ledgers with the general ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies before period-end close.
  • Maintain comprehensive supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews.

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly project financial reports and management packs.
  • Generate profitability reports, cash flow impact summaries, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Ensure timely submission of accurate project financial information to management.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • 4–6 years of project accounting experience within the construction industry (mandatory).
  • Prior experience working in the Middle East (mandatory).
  • Strong knowledge of WIP accounting, revenue recognition, project costing, and financial controls.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale construction projects.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and regional financial compliance standards.
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
